Between everyday items shaped into red hearts and the over-sized half-naked cupids outside our windows, it’s hard not to get the hint. Yep, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. The media has kept in step with the holiday’s heels as it flashes daunting do’s and dont’s for the big day. “Don’t make the Valentine’s Day mistake!” “Are You Next? Read more for Valentine’s Day break ups!.”
Before you send your worries to Google…

You should know that Glam and Graffiti has got your back.
The trick to gifting on Valentine’s Day is that there is no traditional gift anymore. HOLD UP, are chocolates delicately packaged in romantic red heart-shaped boxes and roses…passé? No, no…it seems that every woman still enjoys a dose of cheesy lovn’ (think candy shaped hearts.) BUT, I have found that to truly please your cutie, you may have to dig a little deeper than a steep price tag.

Below I have interviewed over 20 men and women, single and paired, and asked them the big question, “What do you want for Valentine’s Day?”
The answers below may surprise and inspire you of how to treat your own sweetie! Remember, the holiday symbolizes love and caring for another. I loved how honest the readers were and how sometimes it thrilled someone more on Valentine’s Day to be able to make their other smile than themselves.

“This may sound extremely sappy and anti-capitalist but all I want for Valentine’s Day is some time alone with my girlfriend. Just the two of us being able to relax and have a day to ourselves. Or, tickets to a Pens game works.” – Andrew G.
“A romantic trip to somewhere scenic!” – Karen Z.
“To be with someone that I love, to go somewhere special that means a lot to our relationship, go out to dinner and suprise her!”
– Matthew K.
“Something classic, like dinner and spending time with her.” – Zack S.
“I would want a hand engraved compass (meaning that you will never lose me) that is hand engraved with his name from Tiffany’s. I assume the moment when he opens the gift bag would be super beautiful, romantic, and full of love. I wish I could have that moment engraved in his memory forever.” – Meiyi W.
“A hug and a kiss from the girl I like. And a long walk at night with a deep conversation.” – Stone Z
“I would like to do something special or crazy with my boyfriend which we both like to do, such as taking pics and making a photo album.” – Joyce C.
“A candle lit room with rose petals and rose aroma everywhere with a glass of wine for me and a glass of wine for “him” and some light music of any sort in the background and from the balcony or HUGE picture window, we could see a view of the city (any city) and the lights below or in the distance.” – Kelly K.
“A chance to explore California with my gal. Just us.” – Alex D.
“A trip to Paris!!! Is that too much?
That’s exactly what I would want though. Paris.” – Cynthia E.
“A date with a cute boy!”- Lucas O.
“To see my boyfriend.” – Meghan D.
“I would just say someone to spend it with.” – Lucas W.
“I think I would want a kitten, honestly!” – Olivia E.
“Going out to dinner and a rose. Afterwards, going home to watch a chick flick with a fire and making dessert together. – Veronica C.
“Bradly Cooper.”- Dan G.
“I would just want something cute and simple like a little hand made card.” – Myrandah S.
“Nothing beats a nice bow tie and a dinner to wear it at.” – Rahul J.
“I would love to just have my guy want to spend the night on a blanket stargazing with me in a big open field somewhere. Maybe a bottle of strawberry wine. Cheesy! But, it sounds so ideal. – Kristin D.
“An awesome dinner and new episodes of Parks and Recreation. Or a nice dress shirt and tie.” – Ricky C.
“Concert tickets as a gift! Or dinner and a concert for that night.” – Christina R.
“To go to a bar and get a free drink (nice one) or a nice bottle of wine from a girl I like.” – Robby C.
“Honestly, the best gift is something totally personal. It doesn’t have to be bought, like most guys, i’m very practical and simple, what would make me happy is probably anything I could wear that wasn’t clothes, but like a scarf, or a nice jacket, so everytime or anytime I would wear it I would think of them.” – John O.
“A romantic night out in Pittsburgh. I’ve never done the typical Pittsburgh date were you ride the incline up to Mount Washington and then have dinner up there somewhere. Or, I would really like a dozen roses with a home cooked meal.” – Caitlin B.
“I guess just a special day with those I care about, whether it be a special guy I like, or my friends. To me, I really appreciate a sweet gesture more than an expensive gift any day…..although you can NEVER go wrong with some jewelry.
” – Alex H.
