What To Wear: Valentine’s Day

February 11, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

Photographer & Stylist: Stephanie Alexis | Make Up: Courtney D’Angelo

With Valentine’s Day this Thursday, Glam and Graffiti has prepared a quick how-to editorial of how to glam up for any V-Day plan. I matched 3 fabulous girls and 3 great looks! Whether they are going steady or going single, each of these love struck girls dressed for the occasion. Read on!

Who are do you relate to most this Valentine’s Day?

Model, Hilary wears a deep, maroon lace shift dress with romantic, yet edgy, black and gold jewelry. Her plans? Dinner with her long-time sweetie at the funky, new Asian fusion restaurant in town.

Honest, loving, and her best friend, her man is everything she could ask for! But, didn’t he say to be ready at 6 pm…sharp? Where is he?

“For added drama, I drew a sharp, thin cat eye. It emphasizes the beginning of the eye shadow too.” - Make-Up Artist, Courtney D.

Lace Dress, H&M | Necklace, Jupe Boutique

Is that him?

It is! Bring on the sushi!

First Date Stomach filled with butterflies, model, Joyce can’t contain her excitement for her afternoon date with the cute boy she met at work. She wants to look put together, but fun and flirty for her first date. Cue the light pink lip gloss!

A lower high heel or boot can still kick up the charm while keeping it casual. Note: Both models sport the same raspberry red. The height of the dress and the country brown vs. the midnight black shoe shifts the mood of the outfit.

Girls just wanna have fun! Just because your Valentine’s Day doesn’t involve a scene filled with chocolates, teddy-bears, and a Taylor Swift love song, does not mean you can’t still go celebrate! Model, Laura chose to celebrate with a girls night out. This va-va-voom look was spiced up by a bright, red lip and a red hot heel to match!

 Ready to dance!

“I applied the red lip with a fine brush and kept adding on the layers! You want to make sure the pigment stays throughout the night till the last song. For a bright, wide-awake look, I used an angled brush, dipped it in white eyeliner and lined the bottom lash line.” – Make-Up Artist, Courtney D.

{Graffiti} What She (and He) REALLY Wants for Valentine’s Day

February 6, 2013 in Graffiti: Arts & Culture

Between everyday items shaped into red hearts and the over-sized half-naked cupids outside our windows, it’s hard not to get the hint. Yep, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. The media has kept in step with the holiday’s heels as it flashes daunting do’s and dont’s for the big day. “Don’t make the Valentine’s Day mistake!” “Are You Next? Read more for Valentine’s Day break ups!.”

Before you send your worries to Google…

Google

You should know that Glam and Graffiti has got your back.

The trick to gifting on Valentine’s Day is that there is no traditional gift anymore. HOLD UP, are chocolates delicately packaged in romantic red heart-shaped boxes and roses…passé? No, no…it seems that every woman still enjoys a dose of cheesy lovn’ (think candy shaped hearts.) BUT, I have found that to truly please your cutie, you may have to dig a little deeper than a steep price tag.

What She/ He Wants For Valentine's Day

Below I have interviewed over 20 men and women, single and paired, and asked them the big question, “What do you want for Valentine’s Day?”

The answers below may surprise and inspire you of how to treat your own sweetie! Remember, the holiday symbolizes love and caring for another. I loved how honest the readers were and how sometimes it thrilled someone more on Valentine’s Day to be able to make their other smile than themselves.

Glam and Graffiti asked: What do YOU want for Valentine’s Day?

- – - – -

“This may sound extremely sappy and anti-capitalist but all I want for Valentine’s Day is some time alone with my girlfriend. Just the two of us being able to relax and have a day to ourselves. Or, tickets to a Pens game works.” – Andrew G.

“A romantic trip to somewhere scenic!” – Karen Z.

“To be with someone that I love, to go somewhere special that means a lot to our relationship, go out to dinner and suprise her!”
– Matthew K.

“Something classic, like dinner and spending time with her.” – Zack S.

“I would want a hand engraved compass (meaning that you will never lose me) that is hand engraved with his name from Tiffany’s. I assume the moment when he opens the gift bag would be super beautiful, romantic, and full of love. I wish I could have that moment engraved in his memory forever.” – Meiyi W.

“A hug and a kiss from the girl I like. And a long walk at night with a deep conversation.” – Stone Z

“I would like to do something special or crazy with my boyfriend which we both like to do, such as taking pics and making a photo album.” – Joyce C.

“A candle lit room with rose petals and rose aroma everywhere with a glass of wine for me and a glass of wine for “him” and some light music of any sort in the background and from the balcony or HUGE picture window, we could see a view of the city (any city) and the lights below or in the distance.” – Kelly K.

“A chance to explore California with my gal. Just us.” – Alex D.

“A trip to Paris!!! Is that too much? :) That’s exactly what I would want though. Paris.” – Cynthia E.

“A date with a cute boy!”- Lucas O.

“To see my boyfriend.” – Meghan D.

“I would just say someone to spend it with.” – Lucas W.

“I think I would want a kitten, honestly!” – Olivia E.

“Going out to dinner and a rose. Afterwards, going home to watch a chick flick with a fire and making dessert together. – Veronica C.

“Bradly Cooper.”- Dan G.

“I would just want something cute and simple like a little hand made card.” – Myrandah S.

“Nothing beats a nice bow tie and a dinner to wear it at.” – Rahul J.

“I would love to just have my guy want to spend the night on a blanket stargazing with me in a big open field somewhere. Maybe a bottle of strawberry wine. Cheesy! But, it sounds so ideal. – Kristin D.

“An awesome dinner and new episodes of Parks and Recreation. Or a nice dress shirt and tie.” – Ricky C.
“Concert tickets as a gift! Or dinner and a concert for that night.” – Christina R.
“To go to a bar and get a free drink (nice one) or a nice bottle of wine from a girl I like.” – Robby C.
“Honestly, the best gift is something totally personal. It doesn’t have to be bought, like most guys, i’m very practical and simple, what would make me happy is probably anything I could wear that wasn’t clothes, but like a scarf, or a nice jacket, so everytime or anytime I would wear it I would think of them.” –  John O.
“A romantic night out in Pittsburgh. I’ve never done the typical Pittsburgh date were you ride the incline up to Mount Washington and then have dinner up there somewhere. Or, I would really like a dozen roses with a home cooked meal.” – Caitlin B.
“I guess just a special day with those I care about, whether it be a special guy I like, or my friends. To me, I really appreciate a sweet gesture more than an expensive gift any day…..although you can NEVER go wrong with some jewelry. :) ” – Alex H.
What was your favorite idea? What do YOU want for Valentine’s Day?
Single or paired, remember to spread the love next Thursday!

I wanted to share a few of my favorites that brightened my day…and hopefully they will brighten yours as well…

“I’m in a long-distance relationship with my high school sweetheart, so unfortunately we couldn’t have plans ON valentine’s day, but he did make sure I had a box of my favorite chocolates delivered on time to my door, and I’m going to see him this weekend in Philadelphia and he’s taking me to a belated Valentine’s Day dinner ”- Heather

“This year for valentines day for my friends I hand wrote a bunch of little cards and surprised them in their homerooms with them along with a pink sucker. I also bought small boxes of chocolates for my parents and two brothers. I personally had a wonderful Valentines day this year. <3” – Julie

“#GGMaddieXO I came home to a candle lit dinner and a package to the spa after I had been at school and work all day. He totally surprised me!” – @Leslie_Walter90

“Girls night in with chick flicks and wine!” – Tracy

“I spent Valentine’s Day watching Doctor Who with a jar of Nutella and a large mug of raspberry tea. It was the best night in I’ve had in a while.” – Abby

“I had the most romantic Valentine’s Day! My sweetheart and I stayed in this year. We watched Valentine’s Day and had an assortment of cheeses, Italian meats, and a glass of white wine. Happy Valentine’s Day! Xoxo” – Alise

“I found chocolate covered strawberries at my front door this morning!” – Michelle

“My boyfriend and I are on opposite ends of the States– I’m in New York and he’s in California. However, we plan to Skype and watch a movie together at the same time to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Even if we can’t be together we can still spend time together ” – Michelle

{Glam} WANTED: Your Boyfriend’s Cardigan

February 3, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

Wasn’t it just yesterday when you were planning how to catch your cutie for that New Year’s Kiss?

January has flown by and February is here!

I know you are all excited for this eventful month we have ahead celebrating groundhogs and love. What a lovely combination to celebrate, don’t you think?

Just in case you don’t naturally see the connection…let’s elaborate of how this pertains to you, your style, and your life…

* * * * *

Groundhogs:

Alright Mr. Punxsutawney Phil…you give me six more weeks of winter?

I give you more layers, cardigans, boots && hot chocolate. (See City E-Scape or Thursday’s Look for inspiration.)

Love aka Valentine’s Day aka February 14 aka chocolate:

Oh yes…whether you love it or you hate it, depending whether you are single or not, it’s quite an event. Stay tuned for a Valentine’s Day special when the day comes closer!

Whether you are single

Dating (Where’s your little black book?)…

Just taking those first few steps into a that zone where no one really knows if you are an “item” or not && friends depend on that dramatic status change on Facebook to be “FBO” (Facebook Official). ** This is a tough stage. It’s okay. We have been all there.

Honeymoon Couple…

or Together Forever.

YOU HAVE ONE MISSION and ONE MISSION ONLY:

STEAL THE CARDIGAN.

Of course, these days many stores sell the “boyfriend cardi” (which I think should be called the boyfriendless cardi) which I will approve as a reasonable substitute.

A cardigan is the perfect foundation or mid-layer to throw-in to a variety of outfits. Above, I used it as my jacket on a mild winter day.

Here are a few of my favorite all-season cardigans. Take a look!

From Left to Right, Top to Bottom:

{Aerie $20} {Farfetch.com £194} {Target $20} {H&M $15}

{Aubinandwills.com $120} {Bankoffashion.co.uk -BLONDE & BLONDE $55}

.Mission Accomplished.

XOXO,

Glam and Graffiti
