{Glam} How To: Rock A Look

May 14, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

Let’s shake up our wardrobes! Glam and Graffiti has featured the spring trend “tribal” a few times already this season. It’s everywhere. One tip to remember regarding working in new seasonal trends to your existing style is how devoted you will be to rocking the trend versus letting the trend rock you. This pattern is loud, but you don’t have to give in. I took this Nicole Miller knit dress and paired it with my Steve Madden studded boots, a Kate Spade quilted bag, and a Jupe Boutique geometric gold necklace.

Now, let’s get a closer look.

Yup, that is pretty rad. Let’s work it.13

I love the detailed green zipper on the back! Sportswear meets Glam.

{Glam} Sporty Spice

February 25, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

“Tell me what you want, what you really want.”

What do I want?

 I want, nay, I need a dress that can transcend throughout my work day.

Job Opening

Fashion blogger seeks an 8 hour dress. Bright, trim shape, excellent at details.  Must be willing to work for under $75.00 and work all day under intense conditions. Previous experience unnecessary.  Send resume to Glam and Graffiti, P.O. Box 5555, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213.

The art of contrast was an emerging trend spotted on the fall runway that foreshadowed sharp looks for spring. This tailored dress is the perfect piece to simply and seamlessly start off your day right and then end it with a dose of glam. I love this solid, tennis-like dress because it is a breeze to layer with. Think over-sized white and navy knit cardigans during the day, sharp tan and black blazers at the big meeting, and an edgy leather jacket or long, cocktail coat at night.

To me, finding a dress just as reliable as your favorite LBD is essential. As I officially enter the workforce this June, I find that I have been eyeing looks that are suitable for all occasions. (Including the hot summer sun and the frigid office air conditioning!)

For this look, I teamed up with local retail store, Jupe Boutique. I’m talking dress, bag, and accessories. What a great look!

{Glam} Double Denim

January 16, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends, Mens

1930′s    Coal Miners, Westerns, War, Rebels, Hippies, Everyday, Designers….    Today

While denim never goes completely out of style, the way it is “in-fashion” changes from time-to-time.

   * * * * *

Double Denim made a comeback in late spring 2010 and personally, I think it should stay just a bit longer.

Most of you do have the items in your closet to work double denim.

Basic Rules to Follow:

1. Always wear contrasting denim. The 90′s is why we veered away from double denim in the first place. We have already learned our  lessons from our past  idol’s Spears and Timberlake. (You may Google this image if you wish. I decided it was better not to hurt the eyes of my readers.)

2. Vary the look. A caramel, brown side purse is a good rich, complimenting color choice. Roll-up your sleeves or button to the top button to give a simple shirt a whole new appeal.

3. Add a feminine note. Stay clear from trucker-inspired and add an over-sized cockktail ring or a long, silver necklace.

GENTS

PS. You can wear this style too. And, it looks quite charming, manly and smart.

Glenn O’ Brian, The Style Guy and writer for GQ says, “Bruce Springsteen wears double denim, and he’s the Boss…My only caution would be match up your tonalities.” Read more here.

[To me, it is currently my go-to outfit for last minute coffee dates, 24 hour long library study days,

...and I'm late to class, I need to throw something on, I may have overslept days.]

{Bro Out} January

January 12, 2012 in Mens

Hello Men.

What do you wear?

Think about it. Whether you are a street savvy satorialist or a straight-up “don’t” from the GQ style page…you still have a style. Your style.

When giving advice to men and women, I always first ask for them to define their natural style. One of the worst things you can do is slap someone upside their fashion-clueless head and throw them in a three button suit and skinny tie and expect them to like it.

Style is personal…similar to how you choose your bedroom furniture or the car you drive.

The good news is you don’t have to go buy a whole new wardrobe to keep-up.

These fashion forward favorites will keep you looking good in a cinch.

This month for men…

{#HOLIDAYPROBLEMS}

December 25, 2011 in Graffiti: Arts & Culture

It’s the Holidays! I know that things can get rough…here are just a few of those things that are trending right now in every home, in every Christmas party, and all over the world!

* * * * * * *

1. #Takeover: Family is storming from every state possible and distant relatives are now occupying your TV, your bedrooms, and your… refrigerator. Bumping into someone in a hallway is not unusual and the size of your home just shrunk 5 times the size.

2. #LineUp: When you have to take a number to queue for the bathroom in the morning…you know it is the holidays.

3. #Selfcontrol: It is taking all you have to not throw a snowball of mashed potatoes at the next neighbor or family member when asked the casual conversation starter,   “SO what are you going to do for the rest of your life?”

4. #Confusion: It’s strange…your stomach feels like it is going to explode from pumpkin pie, and all you want to do is try that cake that you are eyeing at the other end of  the table.

5. #Mistletoe: That one sprig of leaves that can cause extreme awkwardness in the hallway in route to the kitchen. Party-goers will start finding strategic ways to get into that kitchen just to avoid any confrontations. You were warned here first.  Forget the devious plotting to steal a snog from your crush of 8 years. Relax && be single and mingle! Stay clear. of. the. mistletoe.

6. #Snow: You want it to snow. But, not a lot. Just enough to cover the grass and not close down the interstate. (Depending on what state you are in and how ill-prepared the road patrol are…this calculation can be tricky.) COME ON SNOW.

7. #Leftovers: Some call it a blessing, some call it mashed potatoes for the next straight week. This easy dinner fix…and lunch fix, and unfortunately…sometimes breakfast fix, denotes itself as the only way to truly finish-off that feast your mom cooked for dinner as if she was expecting the entire cast of Modern Family.

You can do this. I believe in you just as much as I believe in Santa.

Merry Christmas!

XOXO
