{Glam} What to Wear on a First Date: Summer Edition

July 25, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

Reader Question: “I have an upcoming date that falls at the end of the summer where I will be picking-up a guy/ friend at the airport. The challenge is that I want to look extra cute because he is a potential boyfriend!

What should I wear?

GG: How exciting! I can understand the delicate dynamic of  wanting to look effortlessly cute and  battling between two style seasons, all while making him fall for you! Let’s see…

1st Date: Summer Trends
Most Featured: {American Eagle} {ModCloth} {Tom Shoes}

The Style Breakdown:

Look 1: This Spring/ Summer there was a consistent nod to floral dresses. Pair the popular trend with a bright, tribal inspired, poppy red with a structured fit and you can’t go wrong. Complete the look with your choice of an earthy-toned pair of Toms or a tawny, wide-strapped sandal.

Look 2: Airy, flouncy, and bohemian, I love this small-detailed, printed dress. Leave it to retro ModCloth to offer a cute shoulder design that is feminine, yet practical. Depending on the day or night’s activities, go for simple comfort or play it up in a low-heeled, western bootie.

Look 3: One of my best go-to pieces for a night-out that has made a recent appearance on Glam and Graffiti, this black, chiffon maxi dress is a timeless classic and easy-to-wear. Rock it with a black gladiator or be fashion-forward and pick a thin, neon strapped sandal.

Look 4: Let’s break-down our maxi dress and mix a few things-up! Keep it casual with a full black maxi skirt, but pair it with a lace white top. Let your toes peep-out with a dose of color in either rusty red flats or neon!

From Summer to Fall: This AEO Denim Jacket is your answer. With every look, this must-have item is the solution to every cool breeze to complete your outfit.

Jewelry: Keep it simple on the first date…your favorite watch, your go-to gold stud earrings, and maybe the necklace you wear everyday.

Beauty: You have heard it plenty of times before, less IS more. Wear an amount of make-up that you feel comfortable in. Keep the eyeliner light, stay-clear from colored eye-shadows, add an extra layer of curling mascara, lightly spritz your everyday perfume, and stash a berry lip gloss in your purse. TIP: Pick-up a few oil-blotting sheets for last minute shine! Life-savers.

*Note: All pieces can be found for around $50 or less and each look celebrates women of every figure.

I hope this helps! Good luck Fashionista! Go get ‘em.

{Graffiti} Streetlight: Sequin

July 9, 2012 in Graffiti: Arts & Culture, Interviews

This summer everything is in the details. Details such as clean, bright, symbolic, and dramatic jewelry that can steal your man’s eye so fast that it can make your hottest LBD number jealous!

I was told that Sequin was a must for a foreign Fashionista visiting Newport, RI. And, my gosh did I feel like I fell straight into bright enameled bangle bracelet heaven.

Set in a gorgeous white, light, and summery store, this sea-inspired line was found in 2000 by sisters Kim and Linda Renk and have been designing distinctive jewelry for over a decade. Sequin produces refreshingly experimental collections season after season for both the runway and retailer. The collection can be found in freestanding Sequin retail stores in Chicago, Newport, RI, and Palm Beach, as well as top department and specialty stores nationwide.

Bottom Line: Sequin is a jewelry hot spot! It’s affordable, it’s iconic, and it’s colorful. Shop online here and take a quick tour below!

{Glam} Blue Crush

June 22, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

At last, summer seems to finally be in full swing. I live for the exciting vacation festivities, but truly cherish the slower evenings of family card playing and eating warm baked apple pie, while the curtains flutter from the salty breeze. To me, that is a true vacation. Despite my tapping away at the keyboard to post, cellphone’s aren’t the first thing that we check every morning, weekly programming is deemed useless, and morning alarms are set on a permanent snooze.

Redefining women’s denim, these floral cutoff shorties are the go-to trend to combat your outfit blahs. These shorts are the perfect companion to your favorite white tee.

At first, I was tempted to pair it with a structured denim button-up, sleeves casually rolled (my summer go-to)…but, decided to try a different aesthetic to mix-it up. The light blue, floral print on these American Eagle shorties are quieter and more feminine than their loud and colorful sisters.  Their frayed edge gives them a vintage and authentic feel – almost as if it is okay to get them a bit beaten-up, normally a “don’t” in conventional white bottoms.

How would you rock this new summer trend? A structured boy’s white collared shirt? Or, perhaps strutting the boardwalk on your own summer vacation? One thing’s for sure, I wish I could sport these shorts everyday if it meant that vacation would never end.
