{Glam} How To: Rock A Look

May 14, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

Let’s shake up our wardrobes! Glam and Graffiti has featured the spring trend “tribal” a few times already this season. It’s everywhere. One tip to remember regarding working in new seasonal trends to your existing style is how devoted you will be to rocking the trend versus letting the trend rock you. This pattern is loud, but you don’t have to give in. I took this Nicole Miller knit dress and paired it with my Steve Madden studded boots, a Kate Spade quilted bag, and a Jupe Boutique geometric gold necklace.

Now, let’s get a closer look.

Yup, that is pretty rad. Let’s work it.13

I love the detailed green zipper on the back! Sportswear meets Glam.

{Glam} Sporty Spice

February 25, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

“Tell me what you want, what you really want.”

What do I want?

I want, nay, I need a dress that can transcend throughout my work day.

Job Opening

Fashion blogger seeks an 8 hour dress. Bright, trim shape, excellent at details.  Must be willing to work for under $75.00 and work all day under intense conditions. Previous experience unnecessary.  Send resume to Glam and Graffiti, P.O. Box 5555, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213.

The art of contrast was an emerging trend spotted on the fall runway that foreshadowed sharp looks for spring. This tailored dress is the perfect piece to simply and seamlessly start off your day right and then end it with a dose of glam. I love this solid, tennis-like dress because it is a breeze to layer with. Think over-sized white and navy knit cardigans during the day, sharp tan and black blazers at the big meeting, and an edgy leather jacket or long, cocktail coat at night.

To me, finding a dress just as reliable as your favorite LBD is essential. As I officially enter the workforce this June, I find that I have been eyeing looks that are suitable for all occasions. (Including the hot summer sun and the frigid office air conditioning!)

For this look, I teamed up with local retail store, Jupe Boutique. I’m talking dress, bag, and accessories. What a great look!

What To Wear: Valentine’s Day

February 11, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

Photographer & Stylist: Stephanie Alexis | Make Up: Courtney D’Angelo

With Valentine’s Day this Thursday, Glam and Graffiti has prepared a quick how-to editorial of how to glam up for any V-Day plan. I matched 3 fabulous girls and 3 great looks! Whether they are going steady or going single, each of these love struck girls dressed for the occasion. Read on!

Who are do you relate to most this Valentine’s Day?

Model, Hilary wears a deep, maroon lace shift dress with romantic, yet edgy, black and gold jewelry. Her plans? Dinner with her long-time sweetie at the funky, new Asian fusion restaurant in town.

Honest, loving, and her best friend, her man is everything she could ask for! But, didn’t he say to be ready at 6 pm…sharp? Where is he?

“For added drama, I drew a sharp, thin cat eye. It emphasizes the beginning of the eye shadow too.” - Make-Up Artist, Courtney D.

Is that him?

It is! Bring on the sushi!

First Date Stomach filled with butterflies, model, Joyce can’t contain her excitement for her afternoon date with the cute boy she met at work. She wants to look put together, but fun and flirty for her first date. Cue the light pink lip gloss!

A lower high heel or boot can still kick up the charm while keeping it casual. Note: Both models sport the same raspberry red. The height of the dress and the country brown vs. the midnight black shoe shifts the mood of the outfit.

Girls just wanna have fun! Just because your Valentine’s Day doesn’t involve a scene filled with chocolates, teddy-bears, and a Taylor Swift love song, does not mean you can’t still go celebrate! Model, Laura chose to celebrate with a girls night out. This va-va-voom look was spiced up by a bright, red lip and a red hot heel to match!

 Ready to dance!

“I applied the red lip with a fine brush and kept adding on the layers! You want to make sure the pigment stays throughout the night till the last song. For a bright, wide-awake look, I used an angled brush, dipped it in white eyeliner and lined the bottom lash line.” – Make-Up Artist, Courtney D.

{Glam} Sea Siren

July 30, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

“Just look at the world around you,
right here on the ocean floor.
Such wonderful things surround you
What more are you lookin’ for?”

It’s hard not to be captivated by the strong inspiration blown inland from the sea this summer. This season, fashionistas have been challenged to take their style to new depths with under-the-sea prints, deep greens, robin egg blues, and orange, coral accents. Mix with with airy chiffon and silks and you will feel like you are truly walking on water.

This gorgeous kaleidoscope gown from Laundry by Shelli Segal was my choice-pick  starting with a relaxed day of window shopping in the sun to cocktails by the water at night.

{Photographed in Newport, RI.}

Many thanks to the women at Michael Hayes boutique for all of their styling fun!

{Glam} Lacy Summer Days

July 17, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend: Lace Dresses

The beating sun, high-temperatures, and low-key agendas have put me in a pretty lacy mood. Lace has shared the spotlight since last spring but we haven’t let go of this fabulous frill just yet. Ivory, bright colors, nude, and grey – lace has become more wearable than ever in eyelet patterns, delicate frocks, and layered, boxy tops and bottoms. Yoana Baraschi, J. Crew, American Eagle, Erdem, Preen, Oscar de la Renta, Bebe and other designers and brands have used lace in many of their summer looks.

{Lace Dress, American Eagle| Leather Bracelet, Nicole Miller| Braided Headband, Aerie| Feather Earring, Forever 21}

Dress it Down.  One of the material’s most attractive features, yet at the same time, its’ biggest challenge, lies in the fact that it can look a bit like lingerie at times. Monitor your look with careful detailing. Play with ripped, cropped denim in the summer and bring back your rugged, worn leather for the fall. Keep it casual by pairing it with an over-sized cardigan for brunch on a rainy Sunday or classy with a tea-length dress for an evening out. Or, stay simple with a fitted frock like the edgy, flower, lace dress below. I like to call this kind of dress a ”Just Add Style” look. As easy-to-wear as a LBD, but with a romantic punch, you can toss-on this dress when pressed for time and pair it with your own favorites. Warning: This one is hard to resist! The back and shoulder design caught my eye  immediately - pure femininity.

Good luck!

{Glam} Watch It!

January 18, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends, Mens

I am not too much of a jewelry kind of girl. Sticking to the basics, I usually always have a pair of simple studs, perhaps my favorite ring from a past birthday, and an occasional statement necklace to add more interest to simple a top.

Let’s just say my friends would rather raid my closet than my jewelry box. One thing is for sure though, they always turn to me to ask for  the time. I Stephanie, am the keeper of time.

What piece do I always sport on my wrist? A watch.

I love watches, and maybe, just maybe, even more than my obsession with glasses and hats.

* * * * * *

Men and women both share in having that staple watch. That piece that may have broke the bank, may be their only designer item in their drawers, but that piece that represents what type of person they are.

Watch psychology? Maybe!

Let’s try…Class is now in session:

The pale green of this D&G watch is beyond its… time…with nudes and pastels alluding to the the Spring 2012 trend forecast. This Fashionista has an eye for style and may have a preppy, feminine, well-edited all over look.

With a mighty slogan, “Time for Rebels”, Tag Huer is an iconic watch choice for any person who wants advanced technology with a traditional approach. Expect the wearer of this watch to mean business, have a need for adventure, and have great appreciation for the classics.

I have collected a few pieces that have really stuck out to me.

Happy browsing!

The real question is..

How is it that even though I have a watch as part of my daily uniform that I still arrive late to class…?

Maybe next time.

XOXO,
