{Glam} How To: Rock A Look

May 14, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

10

Let’s shake up our wardrobes! Glam and Graffiti has featured the spring trend “tribal” a few times already this season. It’s everywhere. One tip to remember regarding working in new seasonal trends to your existing style is how devoted you will be to rocking the trend versus letting the trend rock you. This pattern is loud, but you don’t have to give in. I took this Nicole Miller knit dress and paired it with my Steve Madden studded boots, a Kate Spade quilted bag, and a Jupe Boutique geometric gold necklace.

Now, let’s get a closer look.

Yup, that is pretty rad. Let’s work it.13

I love the detailed green zipper on the back! Sportswear meets Glam.

{Glam} Sporty Spice

February 25, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

“Tell me what you want, what you really want.”

What do I want?

 I want, nay, I need a dress that can transcend throughout my work day.

Job Opening

Fashion blogger seeks an 8 hour dress. Bright, trim shape, excellent at details.  Must be willing to work for under $75.00 and work all day under intense conditions. Previous experience unnecessary.  Send resume to Glam and Graffiti, P.O. Box 5555, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213.

The art of contrast was an emerging trend spotted on the fall runway that foreshadowed sharp looks for spring. This tailored dress is the perfect piece to simply and seamlessly start off your day right and then end it with a dose of glam. I love this solid, tennis-like dress because it is a breeze to layer with. Think over-sized white and navy knit cardigans during the day, sharp tan and black blazers at the big meeting, and an edgy leather jacket or long, cocktail coat at night.

To me, finding a dress just as reliable as your favorite LBD is essential. As I officially enter the workforce this June, I find that I have been eyeing looks that are suitable for all occasions. (Including the hot summer sun and the frigid office air conditioning!)

For this look, I teamed up with local retail store, Jupe Boutique. I’m talking dress, bag, and accessories. What a great look!

What To Wear: Valentine’s Day

February 11, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

 Photographer & Stylist: Stephanie Alexis | Make Up: Courtney D’Angelo

 With Valentine’s Day this Thursday, Glam and Graffiti has prepared a quick how-to editorial of how to glam up for any V-Day plan. I matched 3 fabulous girls and 3 great looks! Whether they are going steady or going single, each of these love struck girls dressed for the occasion. Read on!

Who are do you relate to most this Valentine’s Day?

Model, Hilary wears a deep, maroon lace shift dress with romantic, yet edgy, black and gold jewelry. Her plans? Dinner with her long-time sweetie at the funky, new Asian fusion restaurant in town.

Honest, loving, and her best friend, her man is everything she could ask for! But, didn’t he say to be ready at 6 pm…sharp? Where is he?

“For added drama, I drew a sharp, thin cat eye. It emphasizes the beginning of the eye shadow too.” - Make-Up Artist, Courtney D.

Is that him?

It is! Bring on the sushi!

First Date Stomach filled with butterflies, model, Joyce can’t contain her excitement for her afternoon date with the cute boy she met at work. She wants to look put together, but fun and flirty for her first date. Cue the light pink lip gloss!

A lower high heel or boot can still kick up the charm while keeping it casual. Note: Both models sport the same raspberry red. The height of the dress and the country brown vs. the midnight black shoe shifts the mood of the outfit.

Girls just wanna have fun! Just because your Valentine’s Day doesn’t involve a scene filled with chocolates, teddy-bears, and a Taylor Swift love song, does not mean you can’t still go celebrate! Model, Laura chose to celebrate with a girls night out. This va-va-voom look was spiced up by a bright, red lip and a red hot heel to match!

 Ready to dance!

“I applied the red lip with a fine brush and kept adding on the layers! You want to make sure the pigment stays throughout the night till the last song. For a bright, wide-awake look, I used an angled brush, dipped it in white eyeliner and lined the bottom lash line.” – Make-Up Artist, Courtney D.

March 19, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends, Streetlight

Good Morning Readers,

I am calling Mr. Phil/that season-deciding groundhog out. Winter for 6 more weeks? Right…

That one is about as true as the fact that I had to wear SPF 30 yesterday afternoon between classes.

Thank God Groundhogs don’t control the weather, because guess what…

…It’s spring-time Fashionistas!

Hot-off the pavement, this week’s Glam and Graffiti Streetlight is lighting-up the path for Ms. Chrystin Bunion. A college student with an eye for style, I caught her casually rocking the streets in Spring 2012′s most sophisticated and daring trend: the asymmetrical skirt.

Perfect for the varying heat that spring can bring, this airy and light-weight ensemble is a perfect transitional choice from winter to summer. Check it out.

{Pastel looks from the 3.1 Phillip Lim, Ralph Lauren and Prada Spring 2012 collections}

Last summer the colored chino made a reputable comeback in women and menswear. Nantucket red was spotted across the country. Bright colored fire-engine reds and electric blue pants were seen walking down the streets from miles away.

This spring, how can we up the ante? Take it to the next level?

Fade it out.

Daffodil Yellows – Sea Foam Greens – Apricot Soft Pinks – Whispering Blues

{Highlighted trends from Essie, Net-A-Porter, J-Brand, and Chole}

Pastel is a great color for a statement, (but not loud) pant, a soft and flirty accessory, or a preppy and feminine ensemble. This color palette I designed will help you transition from the brisk winter cold to a fresh and sunny spring.

{Highlighted trends from Miu Miu, JCrew, Aerie, Modcloth, Madewell, Topshop, and Zara.}

Style Tips:

- Take your pastel pant, try rolling the hem an inch or two and pair it with a ballet flat. Going out for the evening? Keep the hem rolled and throw on some sky-high heels for a dressier look.

- Afraid of looking like an exploding Easter egg basket? Try one pastel at a time at first, then, be sure to mix in white. A classic white sweater or tee, paired with a light baby blue pant, topped with a navy blue blazer, and completed by brown heels? That sounds more like Fashionista to me!

- A lot of women think sticking to darker colors will cover and give us an overall slimmed figure. While color can be a factor in perception, it is the cut and silhouette of the clothing that will judge the overall look. Be sure to wear the right size pant, layer with a tailored blazer, or add order with a statement skinny belt.

Good luck!

XO,
Glam and Graffiti
