Wind-blown with suitcases rolling behind us on brown cobblestone into the night, we warmly welcomed land, a bed and food. The next morning we saw our destination with new light. Literally.
Welcome to Nantucket! Home of Moby Dick, Nantucket Nectars (everyone keeps asking me to bring them back juice), pastel colored chinos, and whales on every. piece. of. clothing.
I have fallen in love with this island! Little red headed girls run around with dripping ice cream cones, shops and restaurants hum with chatter of days activities and flowing white wine and at night young and elderly couples walk arm and arm admiring the stars and the lighted store windows.
While unpacking and moving into our quaint and meticulously decorated, ornate cottage off of Main Street, I realized how “un-Nantucket” my ensembles were, creating a problem were yet again, shopping is always an attractive solution.
My first thought…what is this whale obsession? Can any sea creature be reprinted in a mismatching factor? Today, I passed bright, pink chino slacks decorated with lime green crabs and a light blue polo with patterned seahorses in yellow…on a grown man.
Pass me a pastel yellow cardigan, outfit me in a printed pink, green, and white dress from Vineyard Vines and a well-dressed loving boy on my arm in perhaps (and gah, hate to write this) in matching nautical attire, and a dog, where is my golden Labrador?
Alright., I’m ready… let’s do this.
