{Glam} Date Night 1

July 12, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

Picking the perfect outfit can always be a challenge. The first day of work, meeting the parents, a Holiday party, a wedding…the list is endless.   The most difficult? The first date. Cue closet frenzy. Suddenly, questioning every dress cut and animal print, you deem every outfit hopeless. What to do!

1st Date Tips: Breathe in, breathe out. First of all, realize that he asked you out on the date. He wants to spend time with you. So don’t worry! Next, I recommend picking a simple piece. A LBD (a long, black dress)! Keep the jewelry simple and classic. Are you a second date kiss goodnight kind of gal? Go for the red lip!

Will there be a date night 2? I think so. Stay tuned!

{Glam} DIY Daring Details

May 29, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

Let me be the first to admit that, well…I don’t really know how to sew. Sure I can read the small font in the manual, figure-out how to thread a needle and sew a straight line or two on cloth, but I am a bit behind when it comes to changing-up my wardrobe all on my own account. You too? With all these creative juices flowing, we need an outlet…a cheap outlet, that won’t penalize us for our beauty blunders.

The solution? Thrift store finds. I headed to my closest Goodwill store and for a mere $3, a fun hour of designing, and a spool of thread, I re-vamped a threadbare thrift to a darling dress. Take a look!

DIY TIP: The original dress didn’t quite make the fit and wasn’t flattering to my figure. When DIY at home, note your features you want to highlight…long legs, strong arms…etc. It’s your dress!

Let’s see what we can do here…

Design Notes: Because I wanted a revealing back, I lifted the dress for more coverage. This simple alternation squared the top and lifted the dress resulting in a more romantic and updated look.

Feel free to send in your own DIY designs or share your best thrift store find story! Good luck!

{Glam} Lace-Up

May 24, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends, Streetlight

While it may not be a bare bone staple, lace is one of those materials that must make an appearance in your closet. But, the search isn’t always too easy. When you see a woman walk in to a party/ a coffee shop/ or work and she is adorned in lace, I always want to ask where she got it. There is always a story. An afternoon stroll in London’s markets? A vintage shop downtown Manhattan? Or, perhaps a high-end boutique uptown.

 Lace is fashion’s snowflake.

Cashmere makes your feel loved, wool makes you feel cozy, denim gives you a bit of rebel and originality. But, lace? Lace transforms you into a hopeless romantic, a delicate, poised, and beautiful woman. Whether a cut-out cocktail dress, a sensual blouse, or a high-octane floor sweeping gown… you will always step into the spotlight.
