{Glam} How To: Rock A Look

May 14, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

Let’s shake up our wardrobes! Glam and Graffiti has featured the spring trend “tribal” a few times already this season. It’s everywhere. One tip to remember regarding working in new seasonal trends to your existing style is how devoted you will be to rocking the trend versus letting the trend rock you. This pattern is loud, but you don’t have to give in. I took this Nicole Miller knit dress and paired it with my Steve Madden studded boots, a Kate Spade quilted bag, and a Jupe Boutique geometric gold necklace.

Now, let’s get a closer look.

Yup, that is pretty rad. Let’s work it.13

I love the detailed green zipper on the back! Sportswear meets Glam.

{Glam} Studs & Stripes

March 24, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

GG EDIT 1

Three Things I Love About Fashion:

1. Have you ever heard the quote that travels along the lines of “Fashion fades; but style is forever”? — As mysterious as the formation of the Universe, the reason behind why you can’t resist a good chocolate bar, or why Mr. Bieber’s voice is still so high, fashion somehow always comes back in style to exact its revenge.

That’s where your own style is given inspiration and your everyday fashion morphs into your personal style. 1980s studs have suddenly appeared on your favorite designer’s shoes, and once hippie-inspired maxi dresses now make a debut in modern stripes. This phenomenon never ceases to amaze me.

2. Accessorizing with your favorite pieces turns you into a walking scrapbook. I tend to wear minimal accessories and each one has a story or sparks a constant good memory of where I first purchased or attained it. A watch from London, a great steal on a purse from a thrift shop, or a necklace designed by a friend. This idea is two-sided when you ask a friend or a stranger, “Where did you get that scarf?” and incidentally opens part of their own past, possibly serving as a great conversation starter.

3. Affordable finds. I love discovering new designers and paging through my favorite designer’s look books. It’s more amazing to see their designs from their runway shows trickle down through the retail industry and influence buyers. It’s empowering as a consumer to be able to try a look that you can then afford, which your favorite designer has inspired.

What do you love about fashion?

{Glam} Blue Suede Shoes

October 21, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

The taxi came to a halt on Prince Street as we waited for the late crowd/ mob attending NYC’s Fashion’s Night Out to “gracefully” jaywalk across the street.  With tired feet and a heavy memory card loaded with pictures of merchandise, designers, and spring collections, I let out a sigh of relief reflecting the eventful night. Relaxing and casually scrolling through my phone, I saw that Ash Footwear tweeted that @GlamandGraffiti won a pair of shoes based on their favorite #FNO outfit. Wait, what?!

As fast as my ebony and golden rod painted thumb could move, I furiously scrolled back to the tweet and realized that I simultaneously received  a message that I won a pair of shoes! I had first spotted ASH when I was in London last fall and had fantasized of them ’til the trend hit the US this fall.

To me, wedged sneakers are the perfect shoe to fit my lifestyle at the moment. Can a shoe represent a moment of your life? Well, now it can… Fit and chic, I love how I can get the benefits of a heel, but with the comfort of a sneaker. The new best friend for a woman who is always on the move! The outgoing vibe and shout of color is just the cherry on top. Thank you Ash!

[Glam] Splash of Color

June 7, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

Splash of Color. by Glam and Graffiti.

On the first day of my summer job, I spied seven (seven!) Fashionistas/os working the solid colored pant trend. From fiery reds and dusty blues to electric yellows, each one of my new colleagues rocked this hot summer trend pairing their favorite color with over-sized knit holey sweaters, floral fashion tops, and monochromatic solid tanks. This summer, be sure you are the one that wears the pants of the season!

A few weeks ago, I picked-up this copy of The Sartorialist by Scott Schuman, at my old, local bookstore. Ecstatic that they even had a book containing fashion later than the 1950′s, I quickly fell in love with his romantic and staple street style photos. Each photo and story serves as inspiration to me in different ways. Check it out sometime!

Alright, your turn! For the color trend, I turn to American Eagle Outfitters. Always hot on the trail of style, they are the one destination this summer who offers all the colors you need at a great price. I designed the image below to help you get started! Good luck!

{Glam} DIY Daring Details

May 29, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

Let me be the first to admit that, well…I don’t really know how to sew. Sure I can read the small font in the manual, figure-out how to thread a needle and sew a straight line or two on cloth, but I am a bit behind when it comes to changing-up my wardrobe all on my own account. You too? With all these creative juices flowing, we need an outlet…a cheap outlet, that won’t penalize us for our beauty blunders.

The solution? Thrift store finds. I headed to my closest Goodwill store and for a mere $3, a fun hour of designing, and a spool of thread, I re-vamped a threadbare thrift to a darling dress. Take a look!

DIY TIP: The original dress didn’t quite make the fit and wasn’t flattering to my figure. When DIY at home, note your features you want to highlight…long legs, strong arms…etc. It’s your dress!

Let’s see what we can do here…

Design Notes: Because I wanted a revealing back, I lifted the dress for more coverage. This simple alternation squared the top and lifted the dress resulting in a more romantic and updated look.

Feel free to send in your own DIY designs or share your best thrift store find story! Good luck!

[Glam] Mint Condition

May 1, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

This  pastel hue has been the biggest hit of the season.

Inspired by our favorites from the spring 2012 runway,

we can’t get enough of this sudden tidal wave of sea foam green.

2 scoops of mint please!

Let’s cool it down…
