{Glam} How To: Rock A Look

May 14, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

10

Let’s shake up our wardrobes! Glam and Graffiti has featured the spring trend “tribal” a few times already this season. It’s everywhere. One tip to remember regarding working in new seasonal trends to your existing style is how devoted you will be to rocking the trend versus letting the trend rock you. This pattern is loud, but you don’t have to give in. I took this Nicole Miller knit dress and paired it with my Steve Madden studded boots, a Kate Spade quilted bag, and a Jupe Boutique geometric gold necklace.

Now, let’s get a closer look.

Yup, that is pretty rad. Let’s work it.13

I love the detailed green zipper on the back! Sportswear meets Glam.

{Glam} Time to Shine

March 5, 2013 in Glam: Style & Trends

Alright sun. If you won’t shine bright and warm up our cool March days, then I will! Charging into March, black wedged peep-toe first, I can’t wait to welcome some warm summer colors. Till the sun shines through and the snowflakes slow, I will use sequins and sparkles to spice up my wardrobe.

Glitz in the daytime can be doable. Like your favorite dessert, sequins must be used in moderation. I love this blazer because it pulls together at the 1 center button. It pulls focus a bit higher and allows for the flounce of a skirt or dress to show. To accessorize this look, keep jewelry quiet, as your top or bottom will cry for most of the attention.

{Graffiti} 10 Signs You Know Fall Is Here

October 11, 2012 in Graffiti: Arts & Culture

Just in case you haven’t yet taken notice of the turning leaves, have incredible body heat and have not yet shivered from the brisk, cool wind, or have somehow abstained from sipping a pumpkin flavored beverage…

I want to inform you…it is now fall.

Here in Pittsburgh, and I presume in every northeast town, the signs of the changing season cries louder than your cellphone ringing in your 2 pm social psychology lecture.

How can I tell? With true scientific analysis of course. So grab a pumpkin flavored muffin, pull on another layer, and let’s investigate…

You know it’s fall when…

1.  As mentioned before, suddenly everything seems more delicious if the word “pumpkin” is placed in front of it. Pumpkin lattes, pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin pie, pumpkin scents, pumpkin cocktails…

and you can bet we are trying every. last. one.

2. You get utterly confused of what to wear in the morning. “So it’s going to be 33 degrees in the morning, rain for two hours, and then go up to 60 degrees in the afternoon?…” This ambiguous weather phenomenon leaves us constantly checking our weather app, staring at our closets, eyes wide and clueless.

3. You have a sudden urge to carve a pumpkin. You may not currently know how to get one, have a dorm room size capable of creating one, or have any knowledge of carving a pumpkin…but, it is imperative that you carve a pumpkin. Immediately.

4. When the new Paranormal Activity 4 thriller + a shudder or two + your non-Julliard acting skills = your crush putting his arm around you at the theater on your second date.

5. You can enjoy sarcastic posts like this from our friends at The Onion.

6. Ugg boots + North Face jackets have made a return to campuses nation-wide. You love or you hate it. See my calculated analysis featured here

7. You can layer ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. Want a scarf with that cardigan? Want another cardigan with that cardigan? Sure, but only if you top it with a belt.

 8. Your Friday plans seem to change… Out: Anything that means wearing real clothes and venturing into the frigid, cold air after 9 pm. In: Cuddling, PJs, popcorn, a glass of red, and your favorite film.

9. Midterms have pounced as fast as you can sneak another slice of pumpkin pie after dinner.

10. You forget about your Midterms and focus your research and attention on much more important topics …

such as your Halloween costume…

OH! And, we can’t forget…

11. You know it’s fall when…regardless of the premature gift commercials, you can’t help but start to get excited for the snowflakes, hot chocolate, skiing, and celebrations for Winter. ;)

{Glam} Autumn Leaves

October 1, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

It feels like Autumn has pounced on our closets demanding cozy sweaters and boots faster than you can spit out your pumpkin-spiced latte and fanatically blurt the word, “WHERE?!” when your best friend tells you that your favorite designer is having a sample sale. And with the turn of the season, every morning seems to be a bit more challenging as I struggle trying to debate whether I need that extra layer… maybe a cardigan if I get a chill? Or, simply a scarf if it warms up later in the afternoon.

Don’t get me wrong, I love fall. Suddenly, I have an excuse to consume every possible pumpkin-flavored drink and treat on the menu. Chocolate and candy have TWO aisles in the supermarket. Most important and dear to my heart, I secretly DO love layering. Although I really despise the cold and the omniscient premonition of big, puffy parkas covering our outfits, fall brings change and the chance for new beginnings and styles

Printed Pants + Tank, Nicole Miller. Shoes, Jupe Boutique. Multi Bead Bib Necklace, Nicole Miller

Have you been following the printed pant trend? Well, it’s been following you; from last spring seen in flirty skirts and maxis, then to this past summer in cut-offs and shorts, and now to this fall in bold, colored pants. It’s time to venture to make the change! This edgy and bohemian pair designed by Nicole Miller are perfect from everyday errands, to work, then even to cocktails. Comfortable and fun, printed pants change your question from “Hmm, I need a cute top for tonight…” to, “Which bottoms should I wear with my black tank?”, opening up the possibilities for what you originally thought was a limited closet.

Not quite ready to stray from your denim? Try printed denim! I love the new floral jeans at American Eagle.  But remember, make the change and wear it proudly because as fast as it has arrived, Autumn Leaves pretty soon! ;)

{Glam} Sea Siren

July 30, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

“Just look at the world around you,
right here on the ocean floor.
Such wonderful things surround you
What more are you lookin’ for?”

It’s hard not to be captivated by the strong inspiration blown inland from the sea this summer. This season, fashionistas have been challenged to take their style to new depths with under-the-sea prints, deep greens, robin egg blues, and orange, coral accents. Mix with with airy chiffon and silks and you will feel like you are truly walking on water.

This gorgeous kaleidoscope gown from Laundry by Shelli Segal was my choice-pick  starting with a relaxed day of window shopping in the sun to cocktails by the water at night.

{Photographed in Newport, RI.}

Many thanks to the women at Michael Hayes boutique for all of their styling fun!

[Glam] The 7 Sassiest Shoes for Spring

March 29, 2012 in Glam: Style & Trends

Oh, Monday. I have been on the run all day! Moving from class to class, meeting to meeting, && errand to errand.

This week, I swore flats were to be my saving grace.

UNTIL, I spotted these beautiful, wedged heels from Ashbury Skies.

With perfect, tawny tones for spring, enough edge to give your look a bit of attitude, and height that will make your legs go-on for miles, these are THE items of the season.

Take a look and fall in love. I sure did.

Gotta run!

XOXO,
