“And hold, 5..4…3…2…1…I want to see you shake! You can do it. Don’t do it for the hot bikini body. Don’t do it for your boyfriend…do it for YOU! You’ll leave today feeling radiant and strong.”
Our class left the new Barre Code in the North Hills not feeling beat up and exhausted, but indeed feeling radiant and strong. That Saturday was my first experience with a Barre class and I loved it! It was high energy, I left with positive energy, and well, I loved the playlist.
I had a chance to meet and interview the Studio Owner, Meredith Ward. Read on below to learn more about Barre Code, how to get started and her gym and fitness essentials!
For people who are not familiar with Barre Code, can you explain it in your own words?
The Barre Code is a full-bodied fitness program based around empowering our clients that incorporates cardiovascular conditioning, strength training and restoration. We have five different class formats from barre toning, to high intensity interval training to kick boxing. There’s really something for everyone. Above all, the program is focused on building both inner and outer strength through positive motivation.
What inspired you to lead and open these programs in Pittsburgh?
The Barre Code embodies all of my favorite aspects of fitness: barre, cardio, and heated classes. I loved the entire philosophy of The Barre Code and that the mantra to “Live By The Barre Code” means to build strength from within. It was the place I wanted to workout and knew I wanted to be the person to bring it to my hometown.
What’s your favorite class? What class would you recommend for a newcomer? (Like me!)
My favorite class format changes weekly. Sometimes I need to get out some aggression in our Brawl class, or just want to dance and sweat in Barre-dio, and other times I love the shake in our Barre Code. We recommend starting with our signature toning class: Barre Code. From there, you can mix in the different options.
Why is Barre Code good for the mind, body & soul?
The Barre Code is built on the belief of empowering our clients both physically and mentally. We teach our classes from a place of positive motivation and to believe in your body wherever you are in your fitness journey. What the mind believes the body will follow!
Love that! What’s your go-to outfit for a sweat sesh?
I love the Chaturanga tights from Athleta and my Alala sweatshirt from Chelsea Collective. Perfect to workout in and then go meet friends for happy hour!
What 5 fitness essentials do you always have in your gym bag?
My must-haves are Neutrogena cleansing face wipes, a large bottle of Smart Water, a clean pair of sticky socks, an extra hair tie (I can’t work out with my hair down), and my Barre Code hat.
Thank you, Meredith! Can’t wait for round 2!
