I stumbled upon this 70s beauty vanity at a vintage shop called Zenith down the road from my apartment in Pittsburgh. When the owner told me I could have it for $35, I immediately reached for my pocket and gave her everything I had. I’ve been eyeing new ways to organize my morning routine, and this petite table had my future written all over it.
As much as I loved the ornate gold, double shelves and the sizable mirror, I immediately decided the current shelf laminate had to go. It wasn’t terrible, but even after a few scrubs and Clorox wipe wash downs, it still looked a bit dirty.
That night I purchased marble contact paper from good ol’ Amazon for about $10. Remember contact paper from elementary school? This beauty served as quite the throwback. And then just as quickly I floated down memory lane, my face fell as I remembered why I switched from contact paper to fabric book covers in school. This stuff is straight-up trouble.
First, I measured out the two shelves and cut the what appeared to be friendly contact paper accordingly. Next step? Just stick and place on the table! Easy! Blog post over. Not so fast, Fashionista…
What came after that was a night of regret and dread. Okay. A little dramatic, I know. But it was like a WWE match of The Perfectionist vs. The Tiny Air Bubbles That Threatened The Final Look of Your Supposedly Easy DIY Beauty Vanity.
So where does this leave us? If you clicked here from Pinterest for an easy DIY tutorial you may be sitting at a coffee shop, wide eyes filled with doubt, ready to close out of this page faster than you can say, “make that pumpkin spice latte a venti.” And, I don’t blame you! But…
Overall, it was pretty easy. And, the end result made me dance around my kitchen like a little school girl. (It also made me question why maybe I didn’t have plans that night. #NerdAlert)
The marble looked pretty great. Heck, I was almost ready to marble everything in my sight until I had a flashback of a half hour before where I wrestled the darn paper onto the poor beauty vanity in the first place. Check it out below for yourself!
So readers, I leave it up to you. Will you go marble contact paper crazy? Did you already give it a go?
