My curiosity got the best of me as I was shopping one day in Shadyside. I took the wrong turn and found myself looking at a lavish set of dress forms in a large window. A sign read that it was the studio of designer Diana Misetic. There was no question in my next move. I immediately went up to the door and gave it a weak little knock realizing it was closed. Then, Diana Misetic opened the door questioningly. Being unannounced, you can imagine how surprised she was when I excitedly gushed how I loved her designs and looked around bright eyed.

A few weeks later I had the privilege to be invited to her Fall/ Winter ’13 preview. With live music, wine, and hors d’oeuvres the night was sure to be a success and I was looking forward to covering the event.

As I was scoping out the delicious snacks, I was told that they were one model short. As I was asked to step up, (and into a new outfit), I suddenly had a very different view of the party. Thank you to Dino Misetic for a few of the behind-the-scene photos! 

Diana Misetic is a women’s contemporary designer with a background in couture. Diana moved to the United States  in 1994 from Europe to pursue her fashion career and establish her own independent label.

Her designs for Fall are modern and strong. I loved how she used tweed, which can be quite overpowering. To combat this, she kept a focus on highlighting a women’s figure. In turn, the looks were cohesive, classic, and quite fabulous!

Let’s shake up our wardrobes! Glam and Graffiti has featured the spring trend “tribal” a few times already this season. It’s everywhere. One tip to remember regarding working in new seasonal trends to your existing style is how devoted you will be to rocking the trend versus letting the trend rock you. This pattern is loud, but you don’t have to give in. I took this Nicole Miller knit dress and paired it with my Steve Madden studded boots, a Kate Spade quilted bag, and a Jupe Boutique geometric gold necklace.

SO, I used to be an Indian Princess. A member of the Cayuga tribe to be exact. I ran around the campfire excitedly with finger paint smeared across my rosy, chubby cheeks, as the feathers hanging from my hair traveled shortly behind me. Okay, you caught me. This Greek-Italian girl isn’t really from Native American decent, but I really was an Indian Princess. It was an outdoorsy version of the Girl Scouts. You shot bow and arrows, played in the dirt, and participated in poorly organized games by your father as he chatted with his buds around the fire and caught a brew or two.

The vivid war paint and the graphic artwork calls to the tribal spring trend. Match it with bronze make up and red lips to catch the red hidden in the dress!

I graduated! Saturday morning I donned a black cap and gown and celebrated the success of the past four years at the University of Pittsburgh. They day was filled with family, friends, inspiring faculty, and my concern and urge to use one of my honor cords to belt my over-sized gown. Also hanging around my neck was my white Enactus medallion, an organization I started and proudly led at my school.

I was surprised and incredibly honored during the commencement when I was announced the winner of the College of Business Alumni Leadership award. Afterwards I was stuffed with delicious food, captured in pictures of family and friends that are begging to be framed, and excited to start the next chapter of my career.

Glam and Graffiti is growing too. There will be a design change, mixed media, and a party too! Stay tuned and as always, thank you for checking out my space!
