Black and White (and Red All Over)

Temperatures in Pittsburgh dropped faster than the ball on New Year’s Eve. I have yet to accept the frigid air, keeping my fingers crossed for the snow to melt and sundresses and open-toed sandals to be waiting for me right around the corner. But, they are not.
In fact, I feel that we Northeasterners’ must instead prepare ourselves for the most aberrant of weather reports. Wind chills of a mere 2 degrees, traffic-stopping blizzards one day, and dangerous ice and sleet the next. LA seems to be suffering as well. I watched a clip stating that reporters across the vast state have been panicked and distraught as they share that the weather has dipped to an unbearable…50 degrees. It has gone viral in one day and is absolutely hilarious. Check it out!
What can we (and when I write “we” I DO also mean the poor chilled Californians) do to keep our spirits up? I like to incorporate one spring item into my outfit each day. Today, I chose to wear a new preppy red-orange skirt from Gap. I still kept buttoned up and stepped into my hearty boots with thick socks, but underneath my outerwear I wore light layers with a pop of color. Today? Red.
This can be achieved a few ways.
1. Add a bright, floral, colorful (think honey-bee yellows, electric blues, and royal purples) scarf to a what would be dull denim and solid tee combo.
2. Fix up a monotone work dress staple by pairing it with a bright, solid low heel, flat, or bootie.
3. It’s cold. Bundle up! But keep warm with an electric sweater! Which is your style? This striped blue/ yellow, or this hot pink…or maybe this solid neon pullover!
Whether it is a sweater change or a purse swap, I believe that a burst of color will help you keep looking towards spring with a hopeful heart and a trendy closet. Good luck!

What a great skirt! I love the pop of color. I may just have to emulate that outfit, replacing the blacks with charcoal grey, and “popping” with a red-orange skirt.
